Great article, Cassie. Just like anything else in life that's worth something (to you), nothing will change unless you have a burning desire to do it.

For instance, making resolutions feels the same as if you're a newbie traveler with no experience outside your country who's planning for a trip to Europe or Hawaii. The anticipation of you going somewhere else, the thought of being away from work for a couple of weeks, and knowing you have no real responsibilities except to pack and get on that plane makes you think that you're really going to do something different and, in the process, better yourself. The endorphins are kicking in.

And then, something happens on the trip that makes you wonder why you even went in the first place: you misplaced your wallet, you were overcharged for a meal, or you bought something you know you'll regret, whatever. Suddenly, your thoughts revert to your comfort zone, your former tiny little world you seemed so desperate to escape a week ago.

There's a reason NY's resolutions only last about two weeks or so; it's been said that if you can keep something up for close to three weeks on a regular, daily basis, you have a good chance of making it a habit.

Bottom line: nothing will change in your life until the fear or pain of NOT changing and improving overrides the greed and pleasure of certainty and routine.
